month of Medam (April to May); the festival is celebrated at the ThekkinkaduGround
in Thrissur. On the pooram day, processions of 100 elephants from different
temples come and gather around or parading the Vadakkunathan temple. The
procession is accompanied by panchavadyam, an association of drum, pipe,
cymbal, and trumpets. The nonstop display of dazzling firework during this
festival is also a fantastic and memorable event.
Kudamattam is a Malayalam word, meaning is changing colorful umbrellas. It's an event taking place at
Thrissurpooram, the annual temple festival of Thrissur, Kerala. It would take place on any date between April
14 and May 15. Two teams namely Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady compete with each
other with colorful umbrellas with stunning designs. Both team members sit on
elephants back and facing each other and both the teams hold their umbrellas of
the same color and this would be changed frequently as one team changes their
sets of umbrellas. Kudamattam is one of the main attractions of ThrisurPooram.
In this year Thrissurpooram is celebrated on 13th May 2019.
Athirapally
Waterfalls
Located 60 km from the Thrissur city, Athirappilly waterfalls
mark one of the top places to visit in Thrissur. The 80 feet tall and 330 feet wide falls come
all the way from the Anamudi Mountains and are often called as the Niagara
Falls of India. Athirapally Waterfall is the largest in the state of Kerala.
The
travelers can visit and understand the culture and traditional heritage of
tribes like Malayar, Muthuvar and Kadar dwelling in the Athirapilly forest
area. Any tourist can visit their family and tribal huts and they feel happy to
welcome visitors with their traditional food items close to nature. One can see

Vazhachal
Falls
Vazhachal falls is a scenic
waterfall located close to the most famous Athirapilly Waterfalls in Thrissur.
The waterfall is part of the Chalakudy River stream that flows through the
Vazhachal forests. The just right time to visit the Vazhachal falls is between
the months of September and February after the monsoon season ends. The
close city, Thrissur, is about 68 km away from the Vazhachal Falls. It takes
about 80 minutes to reach the Athirapilly falls from Thrissur. A little
drive from Athirapilly falls will take you to Vazhachalfalls. Vazhachal falls is
situated further 5 kilometers from Athirappally waterfall.
Charpa Falls
Charpa Waterfalls is situated only 1 KM away from the leading
city of Thrissur in Kerala. It is a seasonal waterfall and only during the Rainy season. The waterfall is situated just on the highway between
Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls, so tourists don’t have to walk a lot to
enjoy the scenic view. It is located close to the main road, and during monsoon months (June to August)
Thumboormuzhi Garden and
Butterfly Park
Thumboormuzhi garden is ones among the popular Tourist places
to visit in Thrissur district. The butterfly park is situated about fifty-five km
from Thrissur and is on the way to the famous Athirappilly waterfall. The
butterfly garden is a natural habitat of beautiful butterflies and it has about
148 spices. One can witness small and unique butterflies as well as some large
ones. You can also witness some plants like Mexican heather, Rubiaceae, rattle
pods, pagoda flower, flame lily and more. The Thumboormuzhi dam is a famous Dam for
irrigation purposes. From here the river splits into two canals -
Valathukaracanal and Edathukara canal. These canals provide a resourceful aid
to the nearby villages.
PunnathurKotta
PunnathurKotta Elephant Sanctuaries is one of the largest
elephant sanctuaries in India
and located in PunnathurKotta, which is approximately three KM
from the world’s popular GuruvayurTemple.Numerous tourists visit this
destination on their way back from Guruvayur Temple. It is one of the top tourist
places in Thrissur. All the elephant’s lovers across
the world visit this sanctuary to watch how the elephants of different age
group are trained and treated by experienced mahouts and how they manage the
playful mischievous youngster elephants there.
Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary
Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary is a
beauty of nature, located in the MukundapuramTaluq of Thrissur district of
Kerala. The head office of Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary is at Echippara. It was established
in 1984lies adjacent to Peechi - Vazhani sanctuary. The perfect time to visit
Chimmini is between October & March. Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is about
40 km from Thrissur district.
The Forest Department regularly
conducts various trekking and bamboo rafting programs in and around the
forests of the sanctuary.
Some of the wildlife animals found
in the Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary are a wild pig, Leopard, elephant, bear, wild
bison, tiger, etc.
Vaidyaratnam
Ayurveda Museum
The Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Museum
is located at Thaikkattussery, close Ollur town in Thrissur District. The museum
is a beautiful house in an old traditional spacious two stored main building.
The main Museum has separate galleries with presentations about the history of
Ayurveda from Vedic, mythological, Sahitha, Sangraha, Medieval period along
with displays on Kerala’s Ayurveda tradition
Chavakkad Beach
The Chavakkad Beach is popularly
one amongst the most famous Tourist place of Thrissur district. This spot is

Poomala Dam

The dam is located about 15 kilometers from Thrissur. This is a very small dam.
